ABOUT THE ARTIST

Morgan Kane adopted a very effective practice which contributed much to his growth as an illustrator. Between assignments, he spent his time trying out new approaches for hypothetical stories. Art directors were so impressed by these samples that, in several instances, they bought the picture to hold for an appropriate story. In one case, a story was specially written to fit the picture.

Kane was born in Wilmington, Delaware, and won a scholarship to the Cleveland Art Institute. This was followed by three-and-a-half years in the Air Force during World War II. After the war, he got a job doing advertising illustrations in Chicago and obtained his first story manuscript for Extension magazine. In time, he illustrated for nearly all the major periodicals.

Morgan is also an expert photographer and in the early ‘sixties left illustration for full-time photography, though he resumed painting in the mid-seventies, having clients for advertising, paperback covers, and movie posters for Paramount Pictures, United Artists, Universal Studios and Warner Brothers.

Kane also paints and exhibits in several galleries in the West.
