ABOUT THE ARTIST

 

A painter, illustrator and etcher, Vernon Thomas, a female, was a resident of Chicago.  Her art teachers included Charles Hawthorne, Wellington Reynolds and Roi Clarkson.  She was a member of the National Arts Club and the Chicago Society of Etchers.  In 1929 and 1930, she exhibited artwork at the Art Institute of Chicago, and her work is in the collection of the City of Chicago.

"It was explained to me that during the time she was working, it was customary for a married woman's works to be under her husband's name." (Babcock)  

Among her illustration clients was Good Housekeeping magazine including the cover in January 1930.
