ABOUT THE ARTIST

Frank C. Bensing was born in Chicago, Illinois, and received his art training there at the Art Institute. Among his teachers were DeForrest Schook, Wellington Reynolds, Charles Schroeder and Walter Biggs.

Bensing’s first illustrations were made in 1926 for Redbook, an association which continued for many years. He also worked for McCall’s, Country Gentleman, The Saturday Evening Post, American, Pictorial Review, The American Legion, and This Week magazines.

Bensing paralleled his illustration for periodicals with exhibitions of his oils and watercolors at the National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor society, Allied Artists and others. In later years, he turned increasingly to portraiture.

Bensing was a member of the Dutch Treat Club, the Artists and Writers club, the Allied Artists, the Salmagundi Club, the American Watercolor society and the Society of Illustrators.
