ABOUT THE ARTIST

Leslie Cabarga has had an art career that is difficult to categorize. He began to work in his father’s studio at twelve, cutting color separation overlays; by fourteen his first underground comics were being published by the New York underground newspapers. By twenty-one, he had begun an eclectic art career as an illustrator, cover designer, creator of type fonts, CD covers, letterheads, and author of many books relating to the graphic arts. His client list is equally wide ranging from Time, Fortune, Business Week, Esquire, Rolling Stone, GQ, Playboy, and National Lampoon, to CBS/Sony Music, Atlantic Records, RCA Records, Sony America, Nintendo, Pepsi Cola, American Express, Cinemax, HBO, Nickelodeon, MTV, and Tri-Star Entertainment.

Among his many books have been Dynamic Black and White Illustration, 1900-2000, published by Art Direction Books in 1993; A Treasury of German Trademarks; Art Deco Advertising, and The Lettering and Graphic Design of F. G. Cooper, published in 1997, and several books of Clip Art of the 1920s-1950s. Among his many type fonts are “Cabarga Cursiva”, “The Magneto Family”, “Kobalt Bold”, “Art Deco”, “Raceway Script” and “Bad Typ.”
