ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born on a cattle ranch in Ogallala, NE on Oct. 14, 1901. Harnly studied in NYC at the School of Interior Design. Arriving in Hollywood in the 1930s, he settled into the Culver Hotel which remained his home for the rest of his life. For many years he worked in a cafeteria. During the Depression he worked on the Federal Art Project and painted portraits of movie stars until hired in 1935 by the Index of American Design to document Victorian interiors and exteriors. Harnly died in Los Angeles on Aug. 10, 1986.
