Original Use: Cover Art For An As Of Yet Unidentified Paperback Book Title

A bawdy smoking redheaded bad girl finds herself proverbially "on the fence" and garnering the attention of a pair of well articulated convincing hayseeds in this large and wonderful original paperback book cover illustration by Sam Cherry. Painted in the 1950s, an oil on illustration board which was created for an as of yet unidentified paperback title exploring rural proclivities in Smalltown USA. Signed lower right and nicely framed in a vintage and likely original to the painting wood frame.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born in October 16 1903; died Jan 7, 1975.

 

Over the years of the early and mid 1900's he produced a vast number of pulp magazine covers. His specialty was western and detective covers. His last work was for the Texas Ranger magazines. But besides magazine cover illustrations, he also produced television story boards (for the J.Walter Thompson Co), point of sale store display ads, and film strips for school use.
