ABOUT THE ARTIST

Although he worked for Collier’s magazine, The Ladies’ Home Journal, and other publications, Guernsey Moore is most closely identified with The Saturday Evening Post. He produced some of their earliest covers, beginning in 1900, totaling more than forty by 1924. During part of that time he also served as an art director for the Post.

Moore was born in Germantown, PA., and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Working in opaque watercolor, he developed a poster-like style that was ideal for magazine covers because of its strong carrying power.
