ABOUT THE ARTIST

 

A fine-art painter of various subjects including figure and frontier genre, Neil Boyle has been an illustrator and art teacher.  Workshop and teaching venues include the Scottsdale Artists' School in Arizona, the California Art Institute, the Chouinard Art Institute, the Art Center College of Design, and California State University at Long Beach and Northridge.  In 2002, he was honored as a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America.
He received his formal art education from the Banff School of Fine Art and at the Chouinard Art Institute and the Art Center College of Design.
He had a twenty-year career in commercial illustration including for the Saturday Evening Post, Reader's Digest, Good Housekeeping, the Rand Corporation, Walt Disney Productions, the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Post Office.
Over thirty of his paintings are in the U.S. Air Force Historical Art Collection in the Smithsonian Institute and the Pentagon.
He has earned an Award of Excellence from the Oil Painters of America, from the Federation of Canadian Artists' Faces and Figures Juried Exhibition, and third place in figurative painting in the California Art Club's Gold Medal Show.  He has also been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles.
In February 2006, Neil Boyle died as a result of esophagel cancer.  He was living in Vancouver Island, Canada.
