ABOUT THE ARTIST

 

Fran Lew is an American master portrait artist. She is a contemporary realist, trained in academic classical realism. Lew's training can be traced back to the 19thy century French Academy.

Lew's formal studies earned her an MFA degree from Boston University. She did her postgraduate work in Venice, Italy at the Palazzo Grassi International Center for Painting and Design. In New York City she studied at the Art Students League with masters Daniel Greene, Robert Beverly Hale and others.

Lew later moved to Westchester County, New York, where she flourished as a painter under the mentorship of the late Cesare Borgia, an award winning instructor, who was himself a protégé of Master Illustrator Frank Reilly. Frank Reilly, considered by many to be one of the greatest art teachers of realism in America.

Lew was represented by the historic Grand Central Art Galleries in New York City founded by John Singer Sargent and other esteemed artists of the time.

Lew is museum collected, her work can be found at the United States Federal Reserve Board of Governors Art Collection; Cornell Museum of American Art; Sherwin Miller Museum; Maitland Art Center Museum; State of Israel Collection; and the Brooklyn Historical Society Museum. Ms. Lew's subjects include Heads of State, Captains of Industry, Distinguished Members of the Clergy and Medical Professions, Nobel Laureates, Stars of Stage and Film, as well as numerous Private Clients.
