ABOUT THE ARTIST

Robert E. McGinnis was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and he studied both at Ohio State University, where he was a varsity football player, and the Central Academy of Commercial Art in Cincinnati. He is a fine draftsman and painter, particularly of women – Good or Bad – for paperback book covers. His females, while elegant and high-class, have a definite “come hither” attitude. This approach has kept McGinnis one of the busiest and most prolific painters for cover designs, totaling over 1,000, and he has worked for virtually every paperback publisher. In addition, he has illustrated for The Ladies’ Home Journal, The Saturday Evening Post, True, Woman’s Home Companion, Good Housekeeping, Guideposts, Argosy, and other magazines. He also did the titles for the Hollywood movie, Hallelujah Trail and has designed posters for four James Bond movies, Jane Fonda’s Barbarella, Burt Reynolds’s ‘Gator, and others. His painting of John Wayne for The Searchers was made into a limited edition print by the Greenwich Workshop and was awarded a Silver Medal by the Society of Illustrators. For the past several years, McGinnis has been exhibiting Western paintings and nudes through the Husberg Gallery in Sedona, Arizona.
