ABOUT THE ARTIST

Arthur Lidov held a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Chicago but was self-taught in art. He also believed that illustration is the only kind of painting worth doing.

This conviction was also his own challenge which he capably met in commissions for a wide variety of magazines, including Fortune, Collier’s, The Saturday Evening Post, Redbook, Good Housekeeping, American Magazine, Cosmopolitan, American Mercury, The Sign, Life, Sports Illustrated, Field & Stream, Parents, and True. Added to these clients were commissions from most of the major drug companies and several medical magazines.

Lidov’s paintings have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery, and others, as well as in Art Directors Club exhibits in New York, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, and by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, winning numerous awards.

His work is included in the permanent collections of the University of Chicago, Harvard University, NASA, The Fogg Museum (Cambridge, Mass.) and the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
