Robert A. Maguire was one of the many students of Frank Reilly who gravitated to the paperback book cover market. He has had a long career in that field, beginning 1949 with Avon Books, and over the years has painted for virtually every other publisher, including Pocket Books, Harper Books, Fawcett, Bantam, Ballantine, Ace, Signet, Dell, Berkley, Monarch, Hillman, and Lion Books. His work is marked by its versatility and consistent high quality which is particularly effective with romantic subjects.

Maguire also paints for exhibition and is represented by O’Brien’s Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is a member of the Society of Illustrators in New York and the American Artists Professional League.
