A note from Jordan Berman, the Owner & Founder of The Illustrated Gallery
"For this January 11th, 1936 Post Cover, Monte Crews put together a very interesting painting about a true amateur group of musicians and called it The Amateur Hour. Now what is interesting is one of the most popular shows on radio, pre television days, was The Amateur Hour in the late 1930s and 1940s, and it was headed by major Bowes. Major Bowes retired and turned the reins over to Ted Mack and Ted Mack became the host for the television show, The Amateur Hour, which was very popular in the late 40s and 50s. What is interesting about their connection, and to this painting, is that both of these gentlemen owned this painting at one time. Major Bowes bought it in the 30s, and sold it to Ted Mack sometime in the 50s. We were fortunate enough to buy it a few years ago."
