ABOUT THE ARTIST
Regarded as a ground breaking illustrator for the Saturday Evening Post, Robert Robinson was a key person in working out the possibilities of narrative and humor. Like his peers Charles MacLellan and Leslie Thrasher, he was influenced by Joseph Leyendecker and featured comic situations with young boys and old men. With these depictions, women and little girls came to represent sentimentality.
Robinson's typical work focused on rural men, old "geezer" types. Some of them had a story telling aspect such as the "Post" cover of November 26, 1910 with an old man at a stove reading an election poster.
