Story illustration for “Juan Finds Gold” by Bob Gulick, published in Liberty, March 3, 1945.

Described by the Liberty as a tale involving buried treasure, a scheming banker and Juan, the feckless owner of Diablo, an odd sort of horse with a taste for tequila.

The image depicts a woman confidently confronting a jailer, demanding the release of the man behind bars. The full published caption reads: “So I suggest that you release Señor Garcia. I think you will agree that the blame rests entirely upon Juan and Diablo.”
