Before her professional training at the School of Visual Arts, Joan Chiverton grew up drawing New York City's people and cultural scene. She was an award-winning art director for various advertising agencies before she began illustrating for publications such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Chiverton continues to produce drawings, paintings, and etchings in her studio in New York City.

Joan Chiverton grew up drawing New York City, it was the people and music. As an award-winning art director, she worked with ad agencies in NYC and then upstate New York. Since her return in 2003, She has been illustrating for publications such as the NY Times and Wall Street Journal.
